Custom Reports
AI-written reports that summarize what happened in your project, generated on a schedule.
Overview
Reports are AI-generated documents written over your project's data on a schedule: stat cards, graphs, tables, findings and caveats. Each comes from a report template: either a plain-English prompt describing what you want to understand, or a set of sections you build yourself. Confident AI plans the queries, runs them, and writes a report you can read on the platform or download.
A report can contain:
- Stat cards — headline metrics that anchor the findings.
- Graphs — trends over time, such as pass rate by day.
- Tables — supporting rollups, e.g. top failure modes, slowest spans, lowest-scoring metrics.
- Text — an overview, key findings and recommendations.
- Admonitions — callouts for caveats and can't-miss highlights.
How a Report Is Generated
When a template runs, Confident AI:
- Plans queries. A planner model reads the template's prompt (or each section's prompt) and proposes a set of queries against your project's tracing, threads, metric, and test-run data.
- Executes queries. Each planned query runs against the same backing data the rest of the platform uses.
- Writes the report. A summarizer model writes each section from the query results.
If the planner determines that your prompt doesn't map to data the project actually has (e.g. you ask about red-team scores in a project with no red-teaming data), the report comes back as "Irrelevant query" with an explanation, and you can tighten the prompt and try again.
Create a Template
Add a new template
Open Reports from the project sidebar and click New Template. Give it a Name (e.g. Daily Error Summary, Weekly Test-Run Health) and a Prompt describing what you want to understand about your data, or start from one of the Default Templates, then click Create.
Be specific in the prompt
The planner uses your prompt to decide which queries to run, and the summarizer uses it to frame the narrative. Mention the data types, metrics, and time windows you care about.
A vague prompt like "How are we doing?" produces a vague report. A specific prompt like "Show me the passing rates of test runs this past week and which metrics had the highest failure rates. What was our thread activity and have any threads been annotated?" produces a focused, useful one.
Choose how the report is built
On the template's Customize report tab, choose Generate from prompt to have the whole report written from the prompt, or Build from scratch to define each section yourself. See Generating Reports for Stakeholders for building sections.
Set a schedule
Click the schedule button under the template's name to choose how often a report is generated (e.g. weekly). Pause stops scheduled reports without deleting the template, and Generate new report creates one right away.
Read a Report
Open Reports from the project sidebar. Each template has a card showing its schedule, how many reports it has, and its latest ones.
Click a template to see its reports, newest first, on the Reports tab. Open one to read it full screen, and use the Newer report and Older report arrows beside it to step through earlier reports. Each report carries the date it was generated and the period it covers.
Export a Report
Each report has a Download report action, on its card and in the full-screen view. The download mirrors the rendered report, including its graphs and tables, so it stays shareable on its own.
Which Model Generates Reports
Reports use your project's configured evaluation model when the provider is OpenAI-compatible (OpenAI or Confident's pooled OpenAI-backed default). For any other provider — Anthropic, Bedrock, Vertex, etc. — the system falls back to Confident AI's standard generation model so report quality stays consistent.
You can change the active model in Project Settings → Model Settings.
When a Report Says "Irrelevant Query"
If the planner can't find data that matches your prompt, the report returns an "irrelevant query" message instead of a fabricated narrative. Common reasons:
- The prompt names a feature the project doesn't have data for (e.g. red-team results in a project without red-teaming).
- The prompt names a time window with no traffic.
- The prompt is too abstract to map onto any concrete query.
Tighten the prompt (data types, metrics, time window, what "good" looks like) and the next generation will produce a real report.
Dashboards
Build live, drillable dashboards over the same data — graphs, tables, and big-number tiles you can refresh on demand.
Model Settings
Configure which model and credentials reports use, including the gpt-5 verification note.
